THE PHILIPPINE SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Quezon City Chapter in a Nutshell The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) Quezon City Chapter was conceived during one Friday interaction at Atrium, Makati. Its Charter presentation, together with induction of its Chapter Officers & Directors and regular members was scheduled February 26, 1986. The affair was postponed because it also marked the start of the historic EDSA revolution. On March 5, 1986, the PSME Quezon City Chapter was finally given a formal recognition by the Society under the term of Engr. Antonio Ro. Herrera, PSME National President at Camelot Hotel, Mother Ignacia St., Diliman, Quezon City, with the theme: Service through Professionalism. Vic Francisco Engr. Condrado Acedillo Advisers: Engr. Teodoro B. Morales Engr. Antonio Ro. Herrera The most memorable years of the chapter were years 1988, 1999, and 2002. These were the years that the PSME Quezon City Chapter was awarded as the MOST OUTSTANDING CHAPTER. In 1988, Engr. Domingo L. Lagman was awarded as the Most Outstanding Chapter President. It was also in this year that the Chapter garnered the Most Outstanding Project Award for its Welding Seminar at the Barangay Holy Spirit, Diliman, Quezon City. The place is a depressed area. There were forty (40) Out-of School Youth that were trained and given jobs by members in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration business. The Quezon City Chapter is very proud in playing major role in the construction of the PSME Building located at No. 19 Scout Bayoran St., South Triangle, Diliman, Quezon City. Engr. Domingo L. Lagman was appointed as the PSME Building Project Manager. This was in 1988 and it was in his term as President of PSME Quezon City Chapter. As Project Manager, Engr. Lagman exerted all his effort in securing Building Permit and other government requirements. PSME Quezon City Chapter donated the first batch of construction materials. The Chapter hosted the 19th PSME NCR Conference held last April 21-22, 1995 at the Occupational Safety and Health Building in Diliman, Quezon City under the term of Engrs. Vicente de Guzman and Lemecio Jesus Roxas as NCR Governor and Chapter President, respectively. The Chapter hosted again the NCR Conference, last February 24-26, 2000, which coincided with the Chapter's Charter age under Engr. Larry Andres Seril as NCR Governor and Chapter President. In November 1998, after the election of 1999 Board of Directors and Officers, the group undergone the first ever planning session held at National Power Corporation in Quezon City and Pagbilao Power Station in Quezon Province which was aimed to turbocharge the Chapter. The most important activity of the planning process was the articulation of Chapter's Mission/Vision. The group articulated this as “TO BE RESPONSIVE AND RESPECTED CHAPTER COMMITED TO THE LEADERSHIP AND TEAMWORK FOR A BETTER PSME.” During the workshop, the programs and activities were identified for implementation. Since, then the Chapter gone through planning workshops in redirecting the thrusts and priorities every year.
In year 1999, aside from being OUTSTANDING PSME CHAPTER, the Chapter's NEWSLETTER – THE CURRENT CIRCLE bagged the MOST OUTSTANDING PUBLICATION AWARD, which was only in the infant year of circulation. It was also conferred the Presidential Award on its 201 File Project. Individual awards were given to Chapter members and one of the awards is the prestigious PSME FELLOW for Engr. Domingo L. Lagman, Charter President. While, Engrs. Chamberlain Nagma and Nestor Romulo were awarded as Most Outstanding Mechanical Engineers. In year 2001, the Chapter's Newsletter, the QC CURRENT CIRCLE was voted again as the Most Outstanding Newsletter (Publication). Engr. Nestor P. Romulo, Chapter President was awarded as Most Outstanding Chapter President and Engr. Charles G. Masiddo as Most Outstanding Member. The Chapter project's WORKSHOP ON BOILER CODE also awarded as Most Outstanding Project and received Presidential Award of Hosting the Project and remitted all proceeds to the PSME National Treasury. Engr. Rolando P. Sangalang was awarded as one of The Outstanding Mechanical Engineers (TOME). In year 2002, the Chapter bagged the Most Outstanding Chapter and Engr. Cleofas O. Maceda as the Most Outstanding Chapter President, while Engr. Julius F. Villanueva and Dr. Gerardo T. Cabreros as PSME FELLOWS, both Chapter's Past President.
